THEM CROOKED VULTURES’ DEBUT ALBUM

The highly anticipated album from Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) has finally arrived. They go under the aliasĀ Them Crooked Vultures, and all I can say is wow. This album doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever listened to before. It’s very clear that each member of the band has brought something unique to the table.

This album packs a punch with songs like “Gunman”, a distinct, wah-wah infused, in-your-face jam, and “Reptiles”, a sort of rock-blues anthem. “Elephants” is an adventure of a song that progressively gets better as you listen to it.

I would like to say that the album has a select number of soft songs as well, but I would just be lying to you. “Spinning in Daffodils” starts off slowly, but then breaks into a hard rock beat. I pretty much enjoyed every song on the album except for “Interlude with Ludes”. This song was just too weird for me. It sounded lost and had far too much reverb. It also lacked originality.

I give the album a 4/5 for its all-around no-shit, straight to rock and blues awesomeness. There needs to be more of this sort of shit going on in the music industry these days. I’m sick and tired of hearing about Lady GaGa and Hannah Montanna. I may sound like an old man, but seriously! I hope to hear more from these guys soon!
