, based out of Los Angeles, sonically breaks our souls with his new single “Separation.” The former touring guitarist of Youth Lagoon
just recently signed with LA label Plastic Jurassic
, making this his second official release. A song about love and loss, “Separation” embodies Jones’ ability to emulate a vocal timbre comparable to Sufjan Stevens
and pairs it with a heartbreakingly beautiful compilation of electric guitars and a subtle but propulsive rhythm.
“Separation” begins with an introduction that cultivates the feeling of slow dancing in a quiet, low-lit room with a loved one. Contemplating his loyalty to love, Jones quickly shifts gears with an accelerating guitar that drives forward his conflicting journey of ambivalence within a relationship. By the end of the song, he finds acceptance and resolution, singing, “in harmony I will always want separation.” The instrumentation brings a beautifully executed ambience to the track that could not be any more appropriate. Completely transcendent, well-crafted and honestly a little hard to articulate into words, “Separation” does an outstanding job at emotionally captivating us.
Look out for Jones’ limited 7” featuring “Separation” coming later this month from Plastic Jurassic
